Santa Ynez Valley Horseback Riding
Explore the Alisal's 10,000 acres from the back of a horse. Ride through canyons, shaded hillsides, grazing cattle and babbling brooks. Our string of 100 horses can accommodate first-time to advanced riders. Small groups are provided personal attention by our experienced wranglers on twice-daily rides. Contact our head wrangler to set-up a private ride upon arrival. Private rides and lessons are available from 12:30-1:30 p.m. daily. Wake up for the early morning breakfast rides to the Adobe Camp on Wednesday and Saturday mornings (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays during spring break and the summer). You can also participate in our weekly summer rodeos, or our summer evening rides on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5-7:00 p.m. See our Summertime Activity Guide for all of your horseback riding options or check out our Bootcamp Packages.

Enjoy a Western breakfast buffet at our historic Adobe Camp. Giant sycamores and a crackling campfire set the scene for a cowboy poetry recital, a singing cowboy on guitar, and the best flapjacks you'll ever taste. Those preferring alternate transportation can just hop aboard the hay wagon.

Enjoy a dusky trail ride on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00pm to 7:00pm through the hills. Take the opportunity to see deer browsing and raptors gliding or possibly sight a coyote or bobcat hunting. Many critters rustling in the grasses go unnoticed and many transparent twilight colors go unseen. Ride the twilight and see what is so rarely seen. This ride is offered during the summer and is limited to 15 riders.

Extended rides are available for advanced riders only, subject to availability of wranglers and group size. Please contact our head wrangler at least 24 hours in advance of your arrival if you are interested.

Rodeos have long been a popular Alisal tradition. Our authentic Western arena is the perfect stage to enthrall your group. Guests can view a wide range of activities including team roping, team sorting and barrel racing. Team sorting lessons are available on the day of the rodeo for advanced riders, please sign up prior to Wednesday's rodeo event. Guests who have received rodeo lessons are eligable to participate in the rodeo and compete for the "end of the season" silver buckle award. We will be glad to put on quick draw demonstrations or have our wranglers show off their riding and roping skills.
